KEN YA!!

This morning is still running through my mind. We had the blessing of being invited to a church down in Kinyago-Dandora (slums).

The choir was rehearsing as we walked in, singing in Kiswahilli.  It was wonderful and so energetic!

One of my favorite parts was the time of testimony.  A person in the congregation would get up, say “Praise the Lord! Praise Him again!” and then proceed to tell what they were thanking Him for. Here were people who live in the worst conditions, and they found things to praise God about.

The sermon was delivered in English and Swahili and it was a powerful message.  One of the things that was discussed was that in the Hebrew, “Ken” means “Yes” and “Ya” means “God.”  So, each time you say Kenya, you are saying “Yes, God!” Some of the children attend there, so we got our first chance to see them.  They are adorable!

On the drive back, I drifted to my new friends and how grateful they are.  They have nothing, and yet are so full of praise.  Such a lesson for me to remember, when I’m complaining.
